Let’s talk self care. Specifically facial gua sha. Have you heard of it?
I never had until a month ago thanks to my acupuncturist, Dr. Mary Claire Dilks (btw if you’re not following her on Instagram, go follow immediately, her page is beautifully curated and you’ll learn a thing or two!)
Facial Gua Sha is essentially a facial massage using a gemstone – it just sounds healing and magical doesn’t it?! It is.
This ancient self-care technique has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Gua Sha literally means facial scraping. Using a jade gemstone tool, the practitioner scrapes, or massages, their face in specific motions to stimulate lymphatic drainage.
And there are some incredible benefits:
- Increases blood circulation
- Stimulates collagen production
- Reduces puffiness
- Reduces the appearance of wrinkles
- Improves skin complexion
I’ve been practicing this for about 5 weeks and already my forehead appears smoother and my eyes less puffy. Plus my skin really feels rejuvenated afterwards. I do it every night before bed (a new addition to my nighttime routine). I first apply this facial oil to help the tool glide smoothly, and then work my magic.
Do this for 5-10 minutes every day and you’re bound to see and feel a difference. I promise this works. Five minutes of self care goes a long way – not just for your physical health, but your overall well-being.
Would you want to see a video demonstrating the technique? I can’t promise it’ll be high quality and not awkward (let’s be honest), but gotta keep pushing out of my comfort zone! Let me know 🙂
